When we become Christians, our problems will not end, but Jesus is with us in them. When we understand the purpose, we can have joy. 1. To make us mature. 2. To make us ready for Christ's return. 3. To make us strong for battle: come back next week for part 2.

Passage: Isaiah 43:1-7
Duration: 18 mins 51 secs
Many of us face times when we feel we can't cope with our situation. We can come to the sovereign God in humility but, because of what Jesus has done, also with confidence to have a conversation with him about how we feel. First, we need to acknowledge that we belong to him, because he has redeemed us.

Goal: for Jesus' words to become a burning passion in our hearts. Place and time are up to you. Choose a Bible passage to camp in for a few days; ask the Holy Spirt to speak; read the verses prayerfully; meditate on 1 main thought; ask Jesus to work it into your life; maybe journal it. Pray for 1 key person.

Passage: Romans 12:1-2
Duration: 32 mins 57 secs
Live a gospel-centred life. The gospel: Jesus laid down his life to deal with our sin, so we receive his mercy (not getting what we deserve) and grace (getting what we don't deserve). A gospel-centered life has relevance and impact; we receive God's power and ability to get the job done; and our journey has mystery and adventure...

Passage: John 1:4-5
Duration: 26 mins 11 secs
In his Gospel, John records just a taste of what he and the disciples had witnessed, but it is enough for us to believe that Jesus is the promised Son of God. This belief gives life in Jesus' name. John doesn't start his Gospel with a baby or an angel, he starts with the significance of Jesus' coming. He is Life for all mankind. At the start of Acts, Jesus makes it clear that his word is not just for the Jews, but for all people everywhere. The light of Jesus shines in the darkest places we find ourselves, but the darkness cannot do anything to get rid of it!

John 15:5-7: We need to focus ourselves in Jesus and for his words to be alive in us. Matt 6:33: Our focus is Jesus' kingdom and his righteousness, then everything else will happen. Rom 12:1-2: Our focus is to offer ourselves to God, to live in a way that pleases him. If we try to please God, we will find his perfect will. We stay focused by investing in key relationships. We stay focused by prioritising what matters to God first: mercy triumphs over judgement; it is more blessed to give than to receive; be faithful with little; be generous to the poor.

Passage: John 15:5-7
Duration: 32 mins 57 secs
God has a plan for all of us, as individuals, families and as a church. In God, everything we do is spiritual as God wants to be first in everything. We prioritize good things, but Jesus wants us to prioritize God things. If we seek God's kingdom and righteousness, he will sort out the good things. How can I stay focused? By investing in key relationships, first eternal (our relationship with Jesus -- and those we try to influence for eternity), next enduring (family and friends), and finally strategic (which are important for now). Listen to the message to get much more.

We need to stay focused on God's word for our lives. It shines light on where we are going and tells us when we are in the right place. We also need to aim high while trusting God. When we worry, the things we worry about become much bigger; worry is useless! Jesus tells us to seek God's kingdom and righteousness first, and he will take care of the things we worry about. We need to pray in faith, not out of unbelief. We need to seek our 'well done!' from Jesus.

Passage: John 1:1-8
Duration: 35 mins 13 secs
The primary emphasis of Christmas is that Jesus is God. The secondary emphasis of Christmas, as shown by John the Baptiser, is that God wants us to testify to Jesus, to show him off to the world. We do this through the Holy Spirit in us, who gives us the truth and the burning zeal to share it. Sometimes it is small things, such as goodness and kindness, that open the door for Christ. Even John had doubts about whether Jesus was the Christ, but he still testified to who he is.
