Passage: John 1:4-5
Duration: 26 mins 11 secs
In his Gospel, John records just a taste of what he and the disciples had witnessed, but it is enough for us to believe that Jesus is the promised Son of God. This belief gives life in Jesus' name. John doesn't start his Gospel with a baby or an angel, he starts with the significance of Jesus' coming. He is Life for all mankind. At the start of Acts, Jesus makes it clear that his word is not just for the Jews, but for all people everywhere. The light of Jesus shines in the darkest places we find ourselves, but the darkness cannot do anything to get rid of it!

Do you know that God really, really loves you? He invites you to rest from your work and enjoy His passionate love for you. He is eager to spend time with you, in a relationship not based on hard work, but on the joy of simply being together, as two people in love. As we have an intimate daily relationship with the risen Christ, we can experience His true rest even in the midst of the busyness and stress of life. The Word of God helps us to find Jesus our great High Priest and enter His throne room of grace, where we find new mercies every day. Rest from your work and let Jesus carry you! How do faith and trust interact and work together? God gives us faith as a gift, and we put in into practice, trusting Him more and more as we gain experience and knowledge of walking with Him, and as we increasingly see the evidence of His faithfulness. The Israelites in Egypt trusted that the blood would save them when they actively painted it on their door frames, and as they waited through the night while others around them were perishing. David trusted that God would help him against Goliath, as He had helped him in the past against lions and bears. We at Lift have seen God come through and provide when things were very much in doubt and a lot was hanging in the balance. Are you really actively trusting God, particularly in the area of your finances (in tithing) and in your opportunities to reach someone with the gospel and disciple them? God answers when we call on Him and trust Him. Additional scriptures: Hebrews 11:1, Exodus 12:23, Exodus 13:21, Exodus 14:10-14, 1 Samuel 17:34-36, Luke 21:1-4, Matthew 28:18-20

Why do we support missions as a church? The gospel is the power of God to make dead hearts alive. It’s righteousness from God, by faith in Him. God has already gone before us and spoken into people’s hearts. Deep down we humans know that we have broken God’s laws and need divine intervention. The gospel is good and life-bringing news for everyone. Additional scriptures: Hebrews 9:22, 1 Peter 1:23, Romans 1:32, Romans 1:18, Ephesians 2:8

We shouldn’t be surprised when people try to shame us for standing with Jesus and His gospel. People of the world try to avoid shame at all costs, but as believers in Jesus, we will face it at times as we share the gospel with a world that doesn’t want to hear. What does Jesus teach us about dealing with shame for doing God’s will? He purposely endured ultimate shame on our behalf. Hebrews tells us Jesus looked forward to the eternal joy on the other side of the shame, and that we need to keep our eyes fixed on Him. We need to let the Holy Spirit show us, through the Bible, the hope, glory and joy of eternity coming after we run our race here on earth. It’s a spiritual battle and we owe love and grace to the people who would try to shame us. We are not to scorn or despise people, however they treat us, rather respond humbly and hopefully: God is working in hearts as we share His good news. God is the Architect of each one of us and has good plans for our lives. We don’t really need to know the plan ahead of time — we need to know the Planner. God’s plan is filled with good works for us to walk in. He’s working on it, and it’s His good plan. We need to come to Jesus and make every effort to walk in His plan, starting with actively reading about it each day in His Word and letting Him mature us in Him. Additional Scriptures: Hebrews 3:4, Romans 8:28, Luke 5:1-11, 2 Peter 1:3-8
